Ten Awful Movies of the Last Decade

The Chicago Tribune has compiled a list of ten movies that are so bad that the Tribune’s movie critics could not award them even a single star. According to the movie critics, these ten awful movies are so pathetic that they wonder how these movies found their way into production in the first place.

Have you seen any of these ten awful movies of the last decade?

*Sigh of relief* I was afraid I was going to have seen at least half of them, but I've seen none of them. I have, however, seen Howard the Duck, Manos: The Hand of Fate, and I even own all three of the Evil Dead movies.

Daniel,

That was my feeling when I saw the list. Fortunately, I also have seen none of them.

Of the ones you mentioned, the only one I have seen is Howard the Duck.

Howard the Duck is supposed to be one of the worst movies ever made, but I remember really enjoying it. Oh, well.

Nope. But I did see Howard the Duck, which (a) brought one of my favorite comic book characters to the screen, and (b) had Lea Thompson in it back when I watched everything Lea Thompson was in.

Daniel,

I guess people have different opinions when it comes to movies.

Chris,

I have seen "Howard the Duck" but I have to confess that I do not remember Lea Thompson.

Cradle 2 Grave, Devil's Rejects, and Saw IV are the three I've seen. I've pretty much sworn off Saw films at no. 4 and Rob Zombie films at Rejects.

"Lars and the Real Girl" is the best family drama starring a sex doll ever. Have I mentioned that lately?

Chuck,

I may be old fashioned or just selective, but I have not seen any of the ten bad movies nor have I seen any of the movies you mentioned. I wonder what I have lost by not watching these movies.

Claude,

What have you lost by not seeing these bad films?

Not a thing.

I'm the first person to say I should be more selective in in film-going, and I saw the smallest number of films this summer of any summer I can remember.

The "Rotten Tomatoes" website is a really useful thing. For DVDs the review link site "DVD Basen" is just as useful for eliminating bad DVDs.

Of course, I expect you are constantly studying and don't have all these hours to fritter away, but some of us aren't so disciplined. Thus any aid to preventing the "I'll never get that ninety minutes of my life back" reaction at the end of a film is a good thing.

My fondness for horror DVDs is simply explained: they usually have the funniest commentaries.

I've only seen Saw 4 (only because my wife and I were having a Saw marathon), Miss March (disappointing), and parts of Cradle 2 the Grave (while channel surfing). Yes, they're bad, but worst movies of the decade, I could probably list worse films.

Dr. Claude Mariottini said...

Qohelet,

Maybe you should, so that we could avoid them too.

Chuck,

I am glad I did not miss a thing by not watching these movies.

By the way, I am not constantly studying; I wish that would be true.

Glad to say I haven't seen any of them.

One of the worst movies I have ever seen was, The Silver Chalice, which was Paul Newman's first movie. He was so ashamed of the movie that he took out a newspaper ad apologizing for the movie. I have to agree with Newman; the movie was really, really bad.

Dr. Claude Mariottini said...

Brian,

I have not seen The Silver Chalice either. Paul Newman was a great actor and now I am tempted to see the movie just to find out how bad the movie was.

I think that's what happened after Newman put the ad in the paper. Everyone wanted to see the film out of curiosity. :-)

Personally, I'm appalled that Cradle to the Grave is on that list. I liked it. I didn't see any of the other movies on the list, but I think it's unfair to slam Jet Li's movie with DMX and Gabrielle Union. That movie had an extensive black cast and many critics seem to slam those movies.

Marcus,

Thank you for your comment. You have to remember that when it comes to movies, people have different tastes and preferences.

I like Jet Li's movies. I do not think the reason the critics did not like the movie was because it had an extensive black cast. Most movies on the list of bad movies had mostly white actors and yet they were also classified as bad movies. Race had nothing to do with it. A bad movie is a bad movie.
